Excellent Local Schools
Fort Smith students reap the rewards of excellent
elementary and secondary schools and promising futures at the University
of Arkansas at Fort Smith. There are 608 schools in the state of
Arkansas with three of the top five schools being in the Fort Smith
school district. The United States Department of Education designated
Southside High School in Fort Smith a National Blue Ribbon School.
Southside High was the only secondary school in Arkansas to win
the honor in 2000 and one of the few nationwide to win 3 times;
in 1983, 1987 and 2000.

Live Music & Entertainment
If you want to get out and about in Fort
Smith the cultural scene will be to your liking. Fort Smith is home
to Arkansas's first and oldest symphony with 120 musicians and a
stellar season of entertainment. A $7.4 million renovation to a
National Historic Site is based on the edge of the Arkansas River
in downtown Fort Smith where the original Fort stood and history
of the wild west comes to life on its 200 acres. Leisure time can
be spent in various museums and art centers and dawdling in one
of 7 city parks. Live music can be found every weekend throughout
the city and enjoyed during one of many festivals during the year.
